A 13-year-old’s Christmas present has been seized by police after he was causing a nuisance in Kendal.
South Lakes Police said officers had been called several times yesterday, December 30, about a youngster’s anti-social behaviour on an ebike.
South Lakes Police said: “A twist of the throttle takes our 13 year old rider to in excess of 60mph.
“The rider made their way to what they thought would be a secluded part of town, as did the neighbourhood team.
“Just as our young rider was articulating his distaste for his local bobbies, and whilst re-affirming how he wouldn’t be caught, our officer wandered up to him, took hold of his bike and detained him.
“Mum and dad spent their cash on this generous gift, that will very shortly be headed to our crusher. It is uninsurable and does not comply with DVSA requirements.
“We would like to thank our callers for taking the time to report to us – they have directly ensured the safety of not only a naïve young rider but also the pedestrians and other road users who were placed at risk through his actions.
“We hope that the community will understand that, whilst we are committed to removing bikes such as this, we have to manage the situation carefully , notwithstanding the episodes of anti-social behaviour and nuisance, we have to ensure that risk to all parties is minimised.
“The result however will always be the same – seized and processed for a plethora of road related offences.”
