Police and the fire service have issued a warning after youngsters have been spotted playing on ice.
They urged parents to have serious conversations with their children about the dangers of ice, the risk of falling through it and cold water shock.
They said despite continued education programmes by police and the fire service, they were still seeing children as young as 10 entering areas of ice on Hammonds Pond in Carlisle.
They added: “The risk here is real and can have devastating consequences.
“Members of the public will see an increase in patrols of water bodies by police and fire service to educate and provide a visible deterrent.”
