Two names could be added to a West Cumbrian war memorial.
Tom Milligan, of Lowca Parish Council, has applied to Cumberland Council for permission to have the village’s Grade II Listed monument in High Lowca inscribed with the additional names of Private G Askew and Private G Whitehead.
The war memorial, on the junction of West Croft Terrace, features the names of those from the village who fell in the Great War.
They are Pte S Agnew, 7th Border Regiment; J Boyles; C Johnston; W Jackson; J Moore; and S Mellon.
The names of Pte Askew, of the Royal Artillery, and Pte Whitehead, of the 12th Border Regiment, would be added to the north side.
Mr Milligan said: “I have the full backing from Lowca Parish Council and all the people from Lowca. It may be 107 years ago but not too late to put things right.”
