Mirehouse and Workington Juniors both made progress in the Cumberland County League’s Benevolent Cup on Saturday.
Five games survived the weather with the other three fixtures all Division One clashes.
On the all-weather at Lakes College at Lillyhall, Workington Juniors edged past Wigton Harriers 2-1 after they had gone into the break after a goalless first half.
Workington had missed opportunities to go in front but they opened the second half scoring with a clever header from Josh Hoggarth into the top right corner.
In an increasingly scrappy second half Wigton got back into the game and equalised with a goal from Harvey Harrison after 70 minutes with a short range shot in a goal mouth scramble.
Aaron Porthouse scored the winner when he slid the ball into the back of the Wigton net with goalkeeper Ben Gray stranded out of his goal.

Mirehouse also got through their quarter-final, a Whitehven derby at Miners Social which ended 2-1.
First half goals from Josh Foster and Ryan Maguire gave Mitrehouse the edge before the home side was given hope when Ben Graham pulled one back. But despite good efforts from both sides there were no further goals.

Cockermouth reserves ensured they got in a game after their own pitch was ruled unplayable.
They booked the 3G at Lakes College for a noon start ahead of the Workington game and were rewarded with an 8-1 over Whitehaven Miners Development in Division One.

It was 4-1 at the break and Cockermouth were able to add four more in the second-half and lift themselves to third in the table.

Troy Paterson (2), Joey Briers (2), Patrick Williams (2), Max Pickering and Keith Skillen scored the Cockermouth goals.
Whitehaven reserves won 5-1 against bottom side Carlisle City Development who have now lost all 11 league games.
Robbie Watson, Tom Powell, Liam King, Joe Martin and an own goal made up the Whitehaven total.
It was also an own goal which got City on the scoresheet.

In the other Division One game struggling Bransty Rangers lost 5-2 at home to Unisun Athletic Development.
Bransty led 1-0 at the break but Unisun hit five in the second half while their hosts could only add one more.

Spike Canavan and Chris Armstrong were on the mark for Bransty with Dave Nelson (2), Logan Riley, Dec Moore and an own goal making up the Unisun tally.
