A South Cumbrian hospice’s dementia team is expanding into the Lake District.
St Mary’s Hospice, based in Ulverston, has opened a base for outreach services in Windermere.
It will open its dementia cafe at the Ladyholme Centre on Tuesday February 10 from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
The café will offer a warm, inclusive space for people living with dementia and their carers to enjoy companionship, gentle activities, advice, and specialist support.
Dementia cafés play an essential role in reducing isolation, increasing confidence, and strengthening community connections.
Visitors can expect a relaxed atmosphere where they can take part in creative and wellbeing activities, meet others facing similar experiences, and access guidance from dementia specialists.
Carers are welcome to join in or take some time out for respite, knowing their loved one is supported.
The launch of the Windermere café comes at a time of celebration for the hospice dementia team, following th success of their recent Dementia Unmuted Festival for which they were highly commended at the Dementia Care Awards 2025.
The festival brought together art, music, dance, film, storytelling and community action across Furness, showcasing what becomes possible when people living with dementia are placed at the heart of co-production and their community.
The hospice dementia team is continuing to widen its reach across Millom, South Lakes and Furness, working alongside local communities and partners to create meaningful, accessible opportunities for people affected by dementia.
The team warmly invites anyone living with dementia, along with their family members or carers, to come along to the new Windermere Dementia Café and experience a warm welcome, a cup of tea, and a supportive space to connect.
