Workington face the ultimate test tonight when they travel to play FC United of Manchester.
For while Reds are struggling to get off the foot of the NPL Premier Division, still eight points adrift of safety, FC United would go top if they win tonight.
Workington manager Billy Barr said: “FC United are the biggest team in the league, vastly experienced and sitting third in the table with the chance to go top.
“They have the joint best defence in the League so I’m under no illusions as to how hard the game will be.”
Steven Swinglehurst, who had to retire early through injury at Whitby on Saturday, misses out but the good news is that Tyler Magliore is available and will take his place at the heart of the defence.
Barr was hoping to add a new face to the squad for the game but that didn’t reach fruition.
Dav Smington is still on the sidelines with a knee problem and Barr said: “We are still waiting with Dav for the best option to at least try and have him available at some point this season.
“He is a massive miss in the position we are in but he is still desperate to get some involvement.”
Workington drew 0-0 at Borough Park against FC United in September, which was their best performance under former manager Darren Edmondson. It had followed the first win of the season, 2-1 at Bamber Bridge.
