Barrow are cranking up their transfer window activity with two recently added to the squad – and one going out on loan.
In a permanent acquisition the Bluebirds have paid an undisclosed fee to Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday for goalkeeper Killian Barrett.
They have also taken Stoke City defender Freddie Anderson on loan until the end of the season.
He is the son of former Notts Forest and England full-back Viv Anderson.
Going out on loan from Holker Street is Katia Kouyatewho has joined Northern Premier League side Warrington Town until the 8th February.
Kouyate has already spent time on loan with Spennymoor Town this season and links up with the Yellows who currently sit 9th in the Northern Premier League.
Barrett has most recently been on loan with Boston United in the National League, and he links up with Barrow on an 18-month contract, with the option of a further year.
Sligo-born Killian was called up to the Republic of Ireland U21s squad for their friendlies against Croatia U21s and Qatar U23s in Croatia last May.
As well as a loan spell at Boston he’s also had temporary experience with Solihull Moors and Rochdale.
Barrett told the Barrow website: “I only got told about the move a few days ago and after speaking with people at Sheffield Wednesday, I felt it was going to be a good move for my career.”
He will wear squad number 32 and will be available for Saturday’s trip to Crewe Alexandra.
Anderson has recently signed a new two-and-a-half-year deal at the Potters, and was the first signing for the club by new manager Paul Gallagher.
On January 23 2025, Anderson joined League of Ireland Premier Division side Cork City on-loan for the 2025 season.
He scored his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw with Shamrock Rovers in May of that year and would go on to make 37 appearances on-loan whilst helping the Rebel Army reach the FAI Cup final.
Anderson, 19, has also won caps for the USA under-20s as well as captaining his nation for the first time in a 4-0 win over Costa Rica in November 2025.
“Working with the manager before was definitely a factor in making the decision to come here and am really happy to be able to work with him again,” said Anderson.
Gallagher said: “He’s someone I’ve monitored closely since I left Stoke and I’m thrilled we’ve been able to get the deal done.”
