Whitehaven Head Coach Anthony Murray celebrates the win (Ben Challis)

Whitehaven fans will be able to watch their side’s Challenge Cup-tie at Sheffield next weekend.

The two teams meet at the Ortus Rec this Sunday in the opening Championship game but have also been paired together in the second round of the Cup.

It has been confirmed today that the tie will be shown live on BBC iPlayer on Saturday, January 24 (2.30pm ko).

At this stage of the competition, the BBC’s Challenge Cup broadcast picks remain away from their terrestrial channels, which is why it will be only available on iPlayer and the red button.

The all-Championship clash between Sheffield and Whitehaven is only one of a few which has been confirmed after a spate of first round postponements last week.

The third round draw has already been done and both clubs have every incentive as the winner of their tie will entertain Super League’s Warrington Wolves.

Whitehaven will be hoping they can earn another crack at the Wlves as they played at the Ortus Rec last season in the second round and won 44-4.

One of the first round ties called off last week has been rearranged for this weekend will be shown live on The Sportsman’s YouTube channel.

Siddal’s tie against Waterhead Warriors now kicks off at 2pm on Sunday, January 18 – and will be shown live by The Sportsman, as had been originally planned last weekend.
