Kendal Town produced a fine all-round team performance in the Northern League when they won 3-0 at Northallerton Town.
The goals came in the first-half and the win hoisted the Mintcakes into third place in the Division One table.
Manager Matt Flynn was delighted with the performance and result after several weeks of inactivity, in which he had spent a lot of time on the team shape during training sessions.
Jamie Looker had given Kendal the lead after 14 minutes and that advantage was doubled by James Bailey just before the half-hour mark.
Northallerton rounded off a poor first-half by conceding an own goal from Luca Sartini a minute before the break.
The home side had started the second-half with more energy and they were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute for a chance to get into the game.
But Kendal keeper Chris Cheetham produced a fine save to keep out Joseph Dixon’s spot kick.
Flynn talks about the game and his views on recent loan recruit Simon Rigby from Carlisle United who came on as a substitute in the post-match interview above.
Penrith, however, lost ground in their bid to make the top half of the table as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Newcastle Benfield to slip to 14th.
It was a poor game with few chances and the visitors took their opportunities better than Penrith.
Benfield had taken the lead on 11 minutes through Glen Hargrove and Penrith had to wait until the first minute of time added on at the end of the half for Connor Shields to level.
Not five minutes into the second-half James Wilson scored what proved to be the winner, as there were no further goals.
Penrith have to dust themselves down quickly as they go again on Tuesday away to Thornaby.
