Aspatria unable to follow up fine win

Aspatria were unable to follow up a fine win over West Hartlepool at their rescheduled Regional 2 North game.

They travelled to Consett for the catch-up fixture and were beaten 45-26 to stay in the lower regions of the table.

Following those heroics against West Hartlepool, the squad was carrying a few knocks, and there were also some players unavailable.

So to come away with a bonus point was a creditable outcome against second in the league, Consett.

Aspatria had the better of the 1st half and led 21-19 at half-time, but could not contain a rampant Consett side as the game progressed.

The point earned has increased Aspatria’s safety margin to three points in the table, as Guisborough and Durham City, who currently are the two teams who will take part in the end of season play-off game, both lost and neither recorded any bonus points.

Aspatria’s tries were scored by Jamie Lightfoot (2), in only his second game after returning from an early-season injury; Guy Reed, also returning after a bad injury sustained in pre-season action and Arran Sullivan.

This week, Aspatria go to Durham City in a crucial relegation battle.
