After two seasons as the Universal Tanker Solutions team knock out cup champions Waverley finally lost their hold on the trophy in the quarter finals.
Over two legs in a race to 14 frames it was Waverley who capitalised on Station Road A’s mistakes to take a 4-0 lead.
Mark Robertson finally got a frame on the board for Station Road which ignited his team into action as they then reeled off six frames in a row to take a 7-6 lead into the second leg.
Steven Lowery kicked off the return leg with a vital win and when Paul Graffin controlled an excellent double to set up a simple black pot Station Road found themselves 12-8 to the good.
Waverley fought hard to get back into the game winning two out of the three doubles but Mike Walker’s composed singles frame win ensured Station Road made the semi-finals with a 14-9 victory.
Harrington Legion A, looking to achieve a league and cup double, showed their potting abilities as they faced C League’s Moss Bay B.
Legion quickly cut the three frame handicap advantage as they won the first five singles to take a 5-3 lead before Callum Killick pulled a frame back for Moss Bay.
However they couldn’t cope with the Legion’s fire power as John Burns and Graeme Renny finished the tie off for the Legion in a 14-5 win.
In the third quarter final Station Rd C and JJ’s A fought-out a tight first leg that saw Michael Little take the final frame of the night to keep Station Road in the tie as they trailed 7-6.
JJ’s used their home advantage in the second leg as Steven O’Hagan’s opening frame set the tone for the evening as his team won five of the first six singles.
Station Road managed to pull two frames back on the night but were helpless to stop Wayne Hardy and Ryan Brown securing the crucial double and winning frame as JJ’s ran out 14-8 winners.
In the final quarter-final an upset looked on the cards as last year’s Cup runners-up JJ’s B found themselves 9-6 behind after the first leg thanks to a superb effort from Harrington Legion B.
Tom Wren Jr and Lewis King were firing in their singles frames to give the Legion the lead but JJ’s turned the tables in the second leg as Ben Scott ensured they took all six singles and a 12-9 lead.
The Legion clawed two frames back but Kevin Kirkham completed the comeback win for JJ’s B by 14-11.
In the knockout plate it was C league leaders WashHouse Miners who provided the cup upset against Cons Club A.
Cons Club came flying out of the box to take a 5-2 lead but WashHouse found some composure to reel off the final seven frames to take a 9-5 lead which proved too much to recover in the second leg as WashHouse ran out 14-11 winners.
WashHouse could face their pub counterparts as Miners booked their semi finals place with a 14-13 win over JJ’s E.
In a match that saw the lead switch multiple times it was Paul Skipsy’s final frame decider that gave Miners the victory.
Pack Horse A had too much for village rivals Seaton Royal Oak as they won 14-5. Station Road B will complete the plate semi-finals line up as they defeated JJ’s D 14-8.
Station Road edged the first leg 8-6 but in the second it was all Station Road as David Haigh and Andrew Little capped off the victory to keep their hopes alive for a maiden Cup triumph.
