Mitchells will be holding its biggest ever Vintage Toy & Model Sale at its Cockermouth venue this month.

Held on Thursday February 12 and Friday February 13, it will feature over 10,000 comics and annuals – including around 3,000 Marvel comics – and more than 2,000 diecast vehicles for sale.

The auction at its Cockermouth saleroom will also feature Lego, model railways, including a German HO gauge train collection, Star Wars, Star Trek, games and consoles, over 100 teddy bears as well as a wide range of other vintage and antique toys.

The most valuable lots in the sale are likely to be a brass, hand built 3.5” gauge 4-2-2 steam locomotive, length 19.5”, which is expected to sell for £300 to £500.

A Joseph Falk German overtype horizontal steam engine, c1905, spirit fired with double wick burner, sight glass and whistle is estimated at £200 to £300.

Other highlights in the sale include a set of 14 Rupert The Bear Annuals 1936-1949 with an estimate of £150- £250 and a 12-issue set of Marvel Secret Wars comics from 1984 with an estimate of £120 to £180.

A collection of Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone Fighting Fantasy Game Books, Numbers 1 to 30, has an estimate of £120 to £150.

Model highlights include a hand built model merchant ship SS Dawn with fitted electric motor estimated at £70 to £90 and a boxed Dinky Foden’s Numbers 501 and 502 and an unboxed Dinky 344 Plymouth which should make £40 to £60.

Soft toys include a Charlie Bears 2012 Collector’s Edition Set with an estimate of £120 to £180.

The sale also features action figures, a snooker table, rocking horse and a dog cart among a wide variety of other vintage, antique and modern toys.

Where can I see the lots in Mitchells’ Vintage Toy & Model Sale?

Lots are on view in the saleroom on Wednesday February 11 from 10am to 7pm and throughout the sale.

A fully illustrated catalogue can be viewed online at www.the-saleroom.com/Mitchells and www.easyliveauction.com/auctioneers/Mitchells where buyers can also register to bid live during the auction or leave automatic bids.

Alternatively, those unable to attend the sale can arrange to bid by telephone or leave commission bids in advance by contacting the saleroom.

For further information about lots featured in this auction, including condition reports, contact Mitchells’ toy specialist David Lomas on 01900 827800.
