
In the JJ’s Workington Pool B League the Grapes secured a final frame decider to keep their title challenge alive.
They had edged ahead five times in the match but couldn’t shake off Station Road B.
Even when the Grapes took a two-frame lead thanks to Barry Graham’s fantastic yellow to set up Roger Denwood with a simple black.
Station Rd replied as Liam Farragher stroked in the final red for Will Young to pot the black to tie the game 6-6.
Then up stepped Frankie Peel for the Grapes and he expertly potted his five remaining balls to set up a tap in black ball and a 7-6 victory.
Harrington Legion B still lead the section on frame difference but were put to the test by Cons Club A.
In the 8th frame Chris Black and Stuart Robertson doubles win for the Cons levelled the match at 4-4 but a strong back singles showing from the Legion allowed Will Kinsella to secure the winning frame for an 8-5 scoreline.
Red House A kept their slim hopes of promotion alive as Sam Plummer’s double singles win ensured a 9-4 win.
The Pack Horse Pooligans eased their relegation fears with a win over the Miners.
Despite a close match the Pooligans never seemed in trouble as eventually ‘Chiz’ earned his team the 7-6 victory.
The Bees Knees seem resigned to relegation as Red House B beat them 8-5.
In the A league JJ’s A fought back from 5-3 down to win 8-5 against league leaders Harrington Legion.
JJs got the win thanks to two key frame wins for John Howarth and two top drawer clearances from Shaun Ayre and Wayne Hardy.
The win puts JJ’s A back in league contention but also gave club compatriots JJ’s B a chance to go level with the table leaders.
They faced Pack Horse A who had been in good form but this deserted them on the night as JJ’s B were in dominant form that saw Michael Craig inspire surge his side into a 5-1 lead.
Pack Horse couldn’t find a way to close the deficit as JJ’s went joint top of the league with a 9-4 win.
Waverly also joined the league leaders at the top as Mark Cowen helped his team defeat JJ’s C 9-4.
The defeat for JJ’s C meant Station Road C had a chance to close the relegation gap as they played fellow relegation battlers strugglers Moss Bay A.
It was Station Rd who showed the best form as Dave Bateman kicked off the evening with a commanding win and his team followed suit to finish ahead 10-3.
In the C league with WashHouse Miners are destroying anyone in their way of their relentless promotion challenge it was JJ’s E that took advantage of Moss Bay B’s cancelled game to go within one win of clinching the second promotion place.
Josh Whalen kicked off the night with a frame win for JJ’s and after that Vinnies struggled to get a foothold in the game, eventually going down 9-4.
WashHouse Miners C league title seems inevitable as they look to smash the frame aggregate record for any League that has gone before.
JJ’s D were the latest victims of the juggernaut as WashHouse ran out 12-1 winners to extend their lead.
Grapes B are knocking on the door of a top four finish but found themselves 2-0 down at home to the Roundabout.
But they regrouped and started putting frames on the board as Kylie Tweddle’s double singles win ensured the Grapes cemented fifth place with a 9-4 win.
Finally, despite leading 5-2 Union Jack A couldn’t take advantage of their early dominance and the Railway reeled off the final six frames to win 8-5.
