A former Premier League football star caught speeding in the Lake District has been fined and given three points.
Ex-Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers midfielder Garry Flitcroft, 53, was clocked as he travelled at 68mph in a 60mph zone at 12.19pm on January 29 last year.
Flitcroft exceeded the speed limit as he drove a Land Rover on a single carriageway section of the A66 between Penrith and Keswick, near the Troutbeck/Mungrisdale road ends.
Flitcroft pleaded guilty to the offence online, through the Single Justice Procedure, introduced to deal with low-level offending.
As a result of that prompt guilty plea, Flitcroft received a one third discount on the fine which was imposed by district judge Philip Holden at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court.
Flitcroft was ordered by the judge to pay a £140 fine along with police costs of £120 and a mandatory surcharge of £56.
Three penalty points were also added to his driving licence.
Flitcroft is a former Manchester City player of the year and captained Blackburn Rovers under manager Graeme Souness.
He also played for Sheffield United during his professional playing career, and made 10 appearances for England under-21s.
He later managed Northern Premier League sides Leigh Genesis and Chorley.
