A drop-in session will be held in Appleby next week so people can find out more about the progress of the town’s flood risk management scheme.
The work has been delayed due to challenging ground conditions.
The event will be held at Appleby Public Hall on Tuesday, February 24, from 2pm to 7pm.
The Environment Agency’s scheme will provide improved protection for 64 properties around High Wiend, Low Wiend, Bridge Street, Holme Street, Chapel Street, and Doomgate.
The agency said it will also help keep key roads open during flood events, ensuring residents and businesses maintain access.
The agency’s team at the drop in will be able to give more information about the underground work in Broad Close car park, which are nearing completion.
They will also be able to discuss the construction of the new pumping station control building, due to start in the spring, as well as the expected completion for the whole project.
Environment Agency project manager for the Appleby Flood Risk Management Scheme, Ross McKeown, said: “We are hosting the drop-in session to keep residents and business owners informed about the progress of the scheme.
‘’Due to challenging ground conditions, we have experienced some delays to the initial programme.
“We wanted to provide you with an update and to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
“We appreciate your co-operation and support to date, and we want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to progress the work as quickly and safely as possible.’
‘’The free temporary car park at Edenside will remain open until we can safely reopen Broad Close car park.’’
