Yoga sessions for those aged 50 and over have launched in South Cumbria thanks to a new partnership.
Cumbria Yoga Foundation is working with Age UK South Cumbria to deliver two new accessible yoga sessions in Grange-over-Sands and Ulverston.
Funded by the Age Friendly Activities Fund through Cumbria Community Foundation, the sessions are designed to be gentle and inclusive to improve mobility, balance, and wellbeing for people aged 50 and over.
The Grange-over-Sands class launched at the beginning of this month and now runs weekly on Mondays at the United Reformed Church Hall.
The Ulverston sessions will begin on March 5 and take place every Thursday from 2pm to 3pm at the Croftlands Community Centre.
Accessible yoga focuses on gentle, adaptable movement, breathwork and relaxation techniques that can support:
- Improved balance and mobility
- Reduced stiffness and joint discomfort
- Better sleep
- Increased confidence in movement
- Social connection and reduced isolation
Caroline Robinson, founder of Cumbria Yoga Foundation, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be working alongside Age UK South Cumbria to bring these sessions to Grange-over-Sands and Ulverston.
“Our mission is to create a more connected Cumbria through accessible yoga, and partnerships like this allow us to reach people who may never have considered yoga before.
“Thanks to the generous support of Age Friendly Activities Fund and Cumbria Community Foundation, we can ensure these sessions remain affordable and inclusive.”
Hannah Kitching, deputy CEO of Age UK South Cumbria, added: “We know how important gentle movement and social connection are for healthy ageing.
“This partnership allows us to offer additional opportunities to support both physical and emotional wellbeing for older people in an accessible, safe and friendly environment.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Cumbria Yoga Foundation to offer these sessions to help support the health and wellbeing of South Lakeland residents.”
The sessions are delivered by experienced accessible yoga teachers who are trained to offer options for seated and standing participation. No prior yoga experience is necessary.
