Hartlepool’s late run for a National League play-off place gathered momentum with Carlisle United the victims.
It finished 3-1 to the North East side with Carlisle scoring the last goal of the game 10 minutes from the end.
But the Blues had to play from the 59th minute with 10 men after Harvey Mcadam was sent off after being shown a second yellow card.
It was 2-0 at that stage as Tyrese Sinclair had opened the scoring on 12 minutes with a surging run from half-way and a brilliant finish.
The second goal came a minute into the second half when Alex Reid doubled the advantage with a nicely executed volley.
There was also a special moment in the 77th minute for teenage substitute Calvin Okike who scored with his first touch as a Hartlepool player, being on hand to fire home after Sam Folarin’s initial effort had been blocked.
It was only a consolation for Carlisle when they scored 10 minutes from the end as Georgie Kelly netted from close range.
Carlisle are on the road again this Saturday when they travel to Eastleigh, 2-1 home winners over struggling Truro last night.
