A man has been jailed for assaulting and strangling his ex-partner in Carlisle last year.
Callum Fox, 26, of Hilltop Avenue, Kettering was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court to 32 months behind bars.
He had admitted breaching a restraining order, intentional strangulation, grievous bodily harm and threats with a bladed article in a private place.
He was also given an indefinite restraining order against the victim.
On August 26 2025, police received a 999 call stating a woman was in danger from her ex-partner and that Fox was attempting to break into her home.
Police attended and found Fox a short distance from the property. He was arrested.
Cumbria police said that officers then learnt of an assault the previous day, on August 25.
Fox had assaulted the victim by slapping and punching her and had then thrown a number of knives at her which, fortunately, did not hit her. Fox also held a knife to the victim’s throat stating “I’ll do it”.
In an attempt to flee from Fox, the victim moved to another room within the property. However the assault continued with Fox pinning the victim down and strangling her.
Detective Constable Ellie McCorkell, of Carlisle and Wigton CID, said: “The victim in this case went through a terrifying assault at the hands of Callum Fox.
“Using a knife in an assault or any amount of force to strangle someone is incredibly dangerous and could have had a potentially fatal outcome.
“I’d like to thank the victim for her bravery in coming forward and seeing the judicial process through and hope the custodial sentence given to Fox shows the severity of the harm he caused.”
