The top two teams in the Cumberland County League’s Division One met in a League Cup-tie at the weekend.

League leaders Dearham United travelled to the team giving chase, Northbank and it was the current runners-up who came out on top 3-1.

After a goalless first half, Northbank won the game with strikes from Louis Titterington (2) and the help of an own goal.

Dearham’s only reply came from Matty Oglanby.

Consolation for Dearham is that they have a five-point lead over their Carlisle rivals in the league and both have five games to play.

There were two Division One games played on Saturday with victories for Windscale reserves and Silloth.

Windscale travelled to Carlisle City Development with their hosts still looking for their first point after 17 previous defeats.

In fact the young City side gave it a good go and were level 2-2 at the break, just being shaded 4-3 after 90 minutes.

Harry Mitchell, Jack Swailes and James Campbell scored for City with Luke Elliot, Kieran Fraser, Ollie Rowe and Ryan Byrne earning the points for Windscale.

Silloth were level with visitors Bransty Rangers at half-time, 1-1, but they came out on top 3-1 at the finish.

Jackson Slack (2) and Max Hayhurst scored for Silloth with Chris Armstrong notching for Bransty.

It was top versus bottom in the Premier Division where Unisun Athletic moved a step nearer the title with a 4-0 win at Cleator Moor Celtic reserves.

Mikey Williamson (3) and Liam Graham scored the goals.

In the derby clash at Barton Laws, Aspatria beat their hosts Wigton Harriers 2-0 with Jack Coyne and an own goal providing the visitors with the three points.

The other Premier Division game finished all square as Cockermouth drew 2-2 with Whitehaven Miners Social in a game switched to Lakes College.

Troy Paterson and Ewan Harrison scored for Cockermouth while Aaron Hart and Ben Graham earned the Miners a point.

There should be a full programme this Saturday with 10 fixtures:

  • Premier Division: Cleator Moor Celtic reserves v Keswick; Maryport Athletic v Aspatria; Mirehouse v Cockermouth; Whitehaven Miners v Unisun Athletic;  Workington Juniors v Wigton Harriers.
  • Division One:  Cockermouth reserves v Whitehaven reserves; Dearham United v Windscale reserves; Northbank v Bransty Rangers.
  • Division One League Cup: Carlisle City Development v Unisun Athletic Development; Silloth v Whitehaven Miners Development.
