The family of a woman who died following a collision in West Cumbria last week, have paid tribute to her life.

Catherine Sams, 74, died at the scene of the incident on Lamplugh Road in Cockermouth on Mach 14.

The collision involved Mrs Sams, who was a pedestrian, and a white Volvo car.

Her family said: “Mum was a hugely important and much-loved member of our family.

“We are all struggling to process such a sudden and traumatic loss.

“She will be sorely missed by friends and family alike, we are heartbroken.

“We are keen to request that our privacy is respected while we try to navigate this tragic situation.”

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone who has dashcam footage from Lamplugh Road at around 9pm and saw the lead up to the collision, the collision or immediately after.

Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it, quoting incident number 226 of 14 March 2026 or call 101.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
