
The Cumbria Men’s League season opened at the weekend with Saturday’s programme suffered through two postponements and a cancellation.
Distington A have resigned from the League so their opening game at Glasson Rangers was cancelled.
Seaton Rangers A have suffered through a knock-on effect with numerous injuries to first team players so their trip to Hensingham A was postponed.
The game between Lowca and Flimby was postponed because there was no referee available.
In the games that went ahead Aspatria were denied a win by a last-gasp score for Dalton A following a drop-out.
It finished 30-30 with Aspatria’s six tries scored by Brad Thomson, Ben Tootill, Mark Irwin, Stuart Creighton, Cameron Moore and Ellis Holliday. Tootill kicked three goals.
The Dalton tries were scored by Isaac MacLean, Conor Grant, Toby Conaghan, Pat Kelly, Floyd Tweddle and Elliot Jackson. Kelly kicked three goals.
There was another tight game at Kells where the home A team lost 26-24 to Askam.
Jack Ainley, on dual registration from Workington Town, scored two tries while Jacob Hodgson, Ellis McKee and Ashton Sice also crossed. Ryan Wood landed two conversions.
Teenager Tyce Walmsley, also on dual registration from Town, was awarded the Kells man of the match.
Tom Hopkins was the star for Askam with three tries while then other tries came from Josh Bayliss and Tom Wilkinson. Connor Saunders converted three of the tries.
Cockermouth were involved in a high-scoring game at Roose Pioneers before going down 54-24.
Jude Starkie, Ryan Scott, Regan Tinnion, Robbie Johnston and Jordan Herve scored the Titans tries and Regan Tinnion converted three.
