Cumbria Railways Association is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Set up in March 1976, the association was founded to promote interest in and knowledge of the railways of Cumbria in the past and present day.
Over the past half century the association, now a registered charity, has developed to become a recognised authority and go to organisation for those seeking to know more about the history of the railways of Cumbria.
With over 500 members, the association boasts a large archive of historical documents, over 60,000 photographic images, an active website chat group and has published 30 authoritative books.
The association also produces journals and newsletters.
It marked the start of its anniversary year at its spring conference in Kendal last week.
Guest speaker was Chris Jackson, managing director of train company TransPennine Express.
