A man has appeared in court over the death of an eight-year-old boy who was shot on a farm at Warcop.
Allan Thursby, 64, of Dent Place, Cleator Moor, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, charged with gross negligence manslaughter.
Jay Cartmell died on September 28 2024, after suffering a fatal head injury when a gun was fired at a farm.
The court heard that due to the seriousness of the offence, the case could only be dealt with at the crown court.
Thursby is due to appear there for a plea and trial preparation hearing on April 24.
