Emergency services were called out after a vessel’s emergency beacon was activated.
The beacon emits a distress signal and sends out co-ordinates to search and rescue teams.
Workington RNLI said it was alerted at around 5am today, Friday March 27 that a beacon had been activated in the Maryport area and its all-weather lifeboat, the Dorothy May White, was launched at 5.10am.
Joined by colleagues from Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team and Maryport Rescue, the all-weather lifeboat began a search of the area, joined by the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Prestwick.
The search was stood down at around 7.30am after the beacon was located on a vessel in Maryport Marina.
Workington RNLI said it was a false alarm with good intent.
