
A meeting has been held by agencies ahead of the first game of the Uppies & Downies series in Workington.
The tradition no-rules mass football game takes place on Good Friday from 6pm.
It has no formal organiser and attracts large crowds.
Agencies got together to put plans in place to make sure people stay safe.
Cumbria police said extra officers will be deployed and other agencies will be in the area for support.
Partner agencies have been meeting ahead of Uppies and Downies which starts on Friday to put plans in place to ensure people stay safe.
Cumbria police said: “We are asking those involved and watching to think about their safety and look out for each other, those taking part need to be aware of their surroundings and take particular care near water.
“Officers have been speaking with businesses and local communities ahead of the event to provide advice.
“Our local communities will be aware to consider where they park their vehicles during the events to avoid potential damage, visitors should also take care when visiting on the event days.
“Parents are urged to speak to their children if they intend to attend the events to make sure, they are aware of the safety advice.
“People should be especially careful of the risks posed by large crowds, especially as it gets dark, which can lead to trips, sprains and bruises.”
The second game of the series takes place on Tuesday, April 7 and the third on Saturday April 11.
