Kendal Town are still chasing an end-of-season play-off spot in the Northern League’s Division One.
A run of disappointing results had dropped them to seventh but they were back on song at Parkside Road with a 5-1 win over neighbours Cumbrian rivals Penrith.
Yet it was the Bonnyblues who had started the best, going in front after 13 minutes and looking the best side for the opening quarter of the game.
But once James Bailey had levelled on 21 minutes the tide started to change and Kendal finished the half on top – and in front 3-1.
DJ Taylor scored their second after 28 minutes and Bailey’s second in first half added time gave Kendal the lead they never looked like losing on the resumption.
They went on to score further goals from Taylor (56) and Jamie Looker (89) as they produced a performance more in keeping with their efforts throughout the season.
For Penrith it was another disappointing fade out, as they continue to look a different side home and away, and also in front or behind.

Carlisle City boss Dan Kirkup was pleased with his side’s efforts at Newcastle Blue Star despite the 2-1 defeat.
City had taken the lead on nine minutes through Sean Bannon and were the better side throughout the first half, only to be pegged back four minutes before the break by a penalty from Sean Reid.
A controversial second goal from Reid on the hour while City were wanting to make a substitution changed the game in Blue Star’s favour.
The Sky Blues did apply strong pressure over the closing quarter and deserved to get something out of the game but couldn’t take their opportunities.
