A Spitfire is set to fly over Cumbria as part of celebrations to mark the aircraft’s 90th anniversary.
The Spitfire 90th anniversary flight around the UK is an initiative by the Royal Air Force, led by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and Spitfires.com.
It began it series of nine flights – one for every decade – from Southampton yesterday. Each of the nine flights will also have an escort.
It is due to fly over Cumbria on Monday, April 13, where it is due to be escorted by two Hawk T2s.
The Spitfire will leave Prestwick in Scotland at 10am, and the flight will take around an hour and 10 minutes to its destination, RAF Valley in Anglesey.
The flights are subject to weather conditions or other requirements.
