
A man has been arrested after someone was spotted wearing black clothes and a balaclava in a country lane.
A woman in her 30s was running down the land near Arrad Foot, between Greenodd and Ulverston, at around 7.20am on Wednesday when she saw the man.
She immediately ran away.
Police said they had received several calls regarding the same incident following a post on social media.
Today, Saturday April 11, they said a 56-year-old man, of Wigton, has been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and remains in police custody.
Police said officers had increased their presence in the area as enquiries continue and to provide reassurance.
Sergeant Simon Totten, of South Lakes Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We understand incidents of this nature can cause understandable concern within the community, particularly following discussion on social media.
“Our enquiries have resulted in the arrest of a man as we aim to establish the full circumstances of this incident.
“We would like to hear from anyone who holds any information which may assist our enquiries.
“We would ask residents to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious, while continuing their day-to-day routines as normal.”
