
A young person is in critical condition after being involved in a collision with a police vehicle in a West Cumbrian town.
The collision happened at around 6pm on Saturday, April 18 on Senhouse Street in Maryport.
It involved police and two pedestrians, described by the force as children of secondary school age.
One of the children was airlifted to hospital.
Cumbria police said: “One victim has been transported to hospital with serious injuries and is described as in a critical but stable condition.
“The other suffered minor injuries and has now been discharged from hospital.”
The police vehicle was not in pursuit or responding to an emergency incident at the time of the collision, Cumbria Constabulary said.
Senhouse Street remains closed while investigations continue.
Cumbria police said: “The circumstances of the collision are being fully investigated, and the incident was immediately referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which is standard practice.”
Superintendent Sarah Jones, of Cumbria Constabulary, said: “Our thoughts are with the two young people involved in this incident and their families.
“Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries to fully understand the circumstances, and we would encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
