A South Cumbrian film festival has raised £1,500 for a mountain rescue team.
Broughton-in-Furness Film Club held the fundraiser last month in aid of Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team.
Annette Carmichael, secretary of Broughton-in-Furness Film Club, said: “For our third annual Mountain Film Festival @ Broughton, we selected 11 films for our audience from 120 submitted to the London Mountain Film Festival.
“Our programme featured some extraordinary exploits in rock and ice climbing, snowboarding, highlining, trail biking and caving while an unusual film about a Cornish beach artist creating elaborate geometrical patterns on sand was a real hit with the audience.
“It was fantastic to see this event in aid of our local mountain rescue team being so well supported by the community.”
A new base for Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team is currently being built and the donation was handed over there.
Team member David Binks said, “In January we led a successful search for a missing young person involving over 80 people.
“Such large scale call-outs will be hugely improved when our purpose-built base is up and running.
“We wouldn’t be able to build it without fundraising by the local community – so thank you Broughton Film Club and all our other generous donors.”
