A Whitehaven author will launch her new novel at an event next month.

My Heart, My Soul by Victoria C Hughes will be launched at St Begh’s Social Centre in Whitehaven on May 14, from 7pm.

The event aims to open meaningful conversations about mental health and suicide awareness.

The novel centres around Charlotte, a woman in her 40s who unexpectedly finds love, only to confront the heart-wrenching experience of loss.

While fictional, My Heart, My Soul poignantly addresses themes of grief and the profound impact of loss on those left behind.

Victoria said: “This story is ultimately about love, loss, and the courage it takes to carry on.

“I wanted the launch to be more than just a book event – I wanted it to be a moment for our community to come together and discuss something that is often difficult to speak about.”

It takes place during Mental Health Awareness Week and the event aims to foster reflection and dialogue within the community.

The programme includes:

  • A short reading from the book
  • Live music
  • Guest speakers
  • A candle moment to honour loved ones
  • Interactive displays for guests to leave messages and reflections
  • Information from the mental health charity Every Life Matters
