A Lake District town’s post office has relocated following the retirement of its previous postmaster.
The Post Office counter at Bowness has been officially opened on Thursday after the previous site on St Martin’s Parade closed on Wednesday.
The Rayrigg Road Spar store’s Post Office will be open 8am to 6pm seven days a week.
At the opening, cake was served to customers coming into store to use the new Post Office counter.
Jessica Sheppard, who was the new Post Office counter’s first customer, said: “I needed to pop in to quickly post some parcels and the service this morning was 10 out of 10. I regularly visit the area and saw the opening signage for the Post Office at the SPAR when I was passing by.
“I did not know where the previous Post Office was in Bowness so the visibility of the new location at the SPAR plus the customer parking is excellent. The timing for me has been perfect.”
Rob Langford, Post Office network manager at James Hall & Co Ltd, said: “This has been an excellent piece of partnership work. I am very pleased we have been able to move quickly to ensure continuity of service for customers in Bowness-on-Windermere who have a new Post Office counter in their local Spar store.
“It has meant there was only one hour of service lost between the Post Office closing at its location in St Martin’s Parade on Wednesday evening to the new counter opening on Thursday morning at Spar Bowness.”
