The Lakes Distillery’s shop and bistro has closed.
A number of jobs have been lost as a result – but it has not been revealed how many staff are affected.
The Nyetimber Group, which acquired the distillery at Setmurthy, near Bassenthwaite, in summer 2024, said challenging financial pressures had prompted the closure.
The bistro and shop have been closed on Friday, April 24.
It said: “Factors such as rising cost of living, consumer spending habits and broader commercial pressures all having an impact.
“Financially subsiding this part of the business has been diverting funds away from the core financial objectives and growth plans for The Lakes.”
It said it had been an important part of the business but it had made the difficult decision to close, resulting in job losses.
Distillery tours have also been stopped.
It said that it would not impact the distillery or the whisky making team, who will continue to make spirits, with a particular focus on single malt whisky.
A spokesman added: “The Nyetimber Group will also be carefully considering how The Lakes site can best support its ambitious, strategic goals, which will be shared at an appropriate time.”
