Two Penrith car parks will close to the public next month.
Westmorland & Furness Council has agreed to sell Mansion House and it said it was taking steps to secure the site in the coming days.
This involves removing public access to the car parks at the front and the rear of the building.
The car parks will close from Monday, May 5.
If the building is sold, the authority will keep part of the rear car park.
The council said it would consider options for its use following the sale of the property.
