Cumbria’s four competing clubs ended the West Lancashire Premier Division season with away defeats.
Indeed Whitehaven were the only ones to score a goal as they went down 3-1 at Hurst Green.
They had started the game slowly and had fallen behind on 22 minutes when Jack Burgess scored the opener.
The West Cumbrians rallied and Kian Goulding scored a superb equaliser six minutes later and it was all square at the break.
It was a minute of madness which put them behind just after the hour.
They had a player sent off for an inappropriate remark to the referee; a covering defender pulled a hamstring and in the action that followed Hurst Green broke to score their second through James Kemp.
Although Whitehaven battled on well with 10 men they were caught out by a third goal on 72 minutes by Sam Chatburn.
You can hear below what manager Brian Dawson thought of the performance:
Cleator Moor Celtic were beaten 5-0at Tempest but the scoreline did not reflect how well the Cumbrians had done.
They were the better side in the first half even though they finished it withy nine men – one sent off and the other sin-binned.
Mitch Davenport gave Tempest the lead on 57 minutes and then added four more in a 12-minute spell through Ollie Groocock (66), Connor Griffiths (70), Steven ward (73) and Jordan Pendlebury (78).
You can hear below what manager Gareth Agnew thought of the performance:
Millom put up a decent effort at champions Eagley before going down to two first-half goals from Sam Rigby and Keean Chudoba.
Milnthorpe Corinthians lost 4-0 at Burscough Richmond, conceding two goals in each half.
