An independent horror film is set to be shot in the Lake District.
Moon Hunt, a featurette, is directed by Samuel McEwan and produced by Jamie Holden, both originally from Dalton-in-Furness and now based in Manchester.
Filmmakers Blackfriar Pictures has announced its plans for the featurette, which follows a young couple whose trip to the Lake District takes a darker turn when they
encounter a werewolf and the hunter tracking it.
Filming is expected to take place at locations including Roxy Cinema in Ulverston and Hawkshead Church, along with other sites across Dalton, Ulverston and the wider Lake District.
The filmmakers said returning to the area to shoot the film was an important part of the project.
The pair previously worked together on a film set in the Lake District in October 2024. That production was filmed in a single location in Lancashire due to the nature of the script, and is currently being entered into film festivals.
Jamie said: “We wanted to bring it back here and actually shoot it properly. It’s where we’re from, and it just fits the story better.”
The production company said it is passionate about working within the local area and reflecting it on screen. It added that sourcing locations locally has been challenging for a low budget production, but said some landowners have been very supportive and have allowed access to their sites.
The cast includes Natasha Tosini, known for her role in the independent horror film Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, an indie horror hit that gained global attention after going viral.
Moon Hunt is a low budget independent featurette, and the team is inviting people from the local area to get involved as background supporting actors and crew.
Filming is due to begin next month.
