
One week to go before the half-way stage in the Maryport Pool League and the Sun Inn Sharks regained top spot with a 5-2 victory at Grasslot Welfare.
The highlight for the Sharks was a debut singles win for Steve Wheatcroft alongside Jobby Dunn and Ryan Bedford to put them in control heading into the singles where Mel Scott and Bedford clinched the victory.
Scott and Dunn also took the last double to go three points clear at the top after the Bowling Club took the points at home to Elbra B, the previous leaders.
That win allowed the Bowlers to leapfrog their opponents into second place on frame difference.
Dave Edwards, Jason Miller and Paul Kirkbride scored the singles wins before Anthony Brough and Miller won the final frame to clinch a 4-3 victory.
Elbra A beat Dearham 4-3 as Tony Lambert and Andy Henderson won their singles before they both teamed up to take the deciding frame and clinch the win.
After waiting all season for a win two have come along at once as Butchers B followed up their previous week’s success by beating Maryport Rugby League Club A to move off the bottom of the table.
Lee Hodgson, Ian Pattinson, Sam Winter and Simon Marr were all on top form to secure the win.
However, their pub-mates Butchers A were beaten 4-3 in the big shock of the night against the Sun Inn Cannons.
It was the Cannons who led 3-0 as Zane Alderson, Tommi Allan and Lewis Fisher won their singles before Butchers stormed back to level the match.

Allan and Alderson, though, took the decider to clinch the narrow victory.
Swan v Maryport Social was one way traffic as the home side ran out 6-1 winners, Stephen Pattinson, Mark Mattocks and Gareth Pattinson all had singles wins for the Swan.
Elbra C’s win sent their opponents Glasson Rangers to the bottom of the table. Colin Varty, Jonathan Webster an Luke Nicholson had the singles wins before Simon Forrest and Nicholson secured the points 5-2.
Sun Inn Ballers won the final game of the week when they hosted Maryport Rugby League B. The singles were a cagey affair ending 2-2. Gary Miller an Willy Armstrong won for the Ballers while for the Rugby Club it was Tyler Beales and Robbie Pattinson.
The Ballers then took all three doubles for a 5-2 victory that sees them edge closer to the top half of the table.
