Workington Comets were to have a special guest on Saturday when they were due to host Oxford Cheetahs at Northside.
Carl Stonehewer, the Comets number one and star rider from their days at Derwent Park, was going to attend to promote his challenge on behalf of the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund.
The former GP rider and his former mechanic Nick Sharples are driving up in the banger they bought for £500 and did up.
The pair are teaming up to complete the Skinflint Rally in September.
It is not a race but an endurance driving challenge – a trip to Nice in the South of France via Italy over three days.
However, this morning, the meeting has been postponed due to the weather forecast and Stonehewer said he will attend another home meeting.

He said: “There’s lots of challenges to do along the way and we are both hoping we can make an impression on our first attempt.
“We are hoping to raise as much money as we can for the Injured Riders Fund and knowing the generosity of West Cumbrians I’m sure we will get good support at Workington.
“The Comets, and Workington, have been such a big part of my life it’s always a pleasure to come back and really it’s home from home to me,” he said.
Before the trip to Workington Carl spoke to Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh about the Skinflint Rally, and how he and Nick have put the car together and he also recalls his time riding for the Comets.
He also says that he believes the Northside track could be the best racing track in the world – and that local star Dan Bewley from Maryport will surely become world champion.
