
A climber was seriously injured in Cumbrian woods.
Penrith Mountain Rescue Team were called out on Monday, May 11, at around 1.30pm to Coombs Wood at Armathwaite.
The lone climber had fallen from the crags in the wood, sustaining serious head injuries.
The team said: “He had luckily been found by chance by a walker who happened upon him and stayed with him until the team arrived.”
The volunteers were already out, searching for a missing person north of Carlisle, and some members were diverted to the incident, with five volunteers from Keswick Mountain Rescue Team.
The Great North Air Ambulance was also deployed.
Penrith Mountain Rescue Team said: “One of the team’s doctors, along with medics from the Great North Air Ambulance Service, were quickly on scene and able to assess his injuries.
“Other team members rigged a twin rope system to haul the casualty back to the top of the crag.
“Once on a stretcher he was extracted back up to the crag top and into a team vehicle for transfer to an ambulance for onward travel to hospital.”
