Workington Comets lose out to Glasgow Tigers

Workington Comets were involved in another last heat decider but once again came out on the wrong end – this time against Glasgow Tigers.

They trailed 43-41 going into the showdown race to end the night and were disappointed to lose out to a 5-1 after both riders Jonas Jeppesen and Craig Cook had been showing good form.

Jeppsen had moved at the start so brought back for a rerun and this time the Glasgow pair of Leon Flint and Kyle Howarth gated quickly and raced away from Cook with Jeppesen eventually retiring.

The Dane had won two races in his previous five outings and collected 11 points while Cook had three wins on his return to the track and he finished with 11 points and a bonus.

Tate Zischke provided solid support with eight points and a bonus from his four rides but skipper Troy Batchelor was without a win in his four-ride five points.

Back from his exploits in the World Longtrack event Max Perry finished third in all four outings but reserve guest Mickie Simpson failed to score in his three outings.

Although Nicklas Holm Jakobsen only managed three points from his four rides those did come from a win which should help his confidence on return from injury.

They were never more than six points adrift in the whole meeting, and although disappointed not to snatch a last heat decider will be reasonably confident of turning things round for the aggregate points when they ride the return on June 27.

The Comets should have been at Northside this afternoon to face Oxford Cheetahs but the meeting was called off yesterday because of the poor weather forecast.
