Lake District pupils have secured an historic victory – claiming the win in an adventure race for the first time in its 20-year history.
The annual Round Square Adventure Race sees teams from Windermere, Gordonstoun, Abbotsholme and Surrey Hills schools compete.
Over two challenging days, teams of Year 9 and 10 pupils competed across a demanding programme of adventure activities designed to test resilience, teamwork, endurance and leadership.
Events included rock climbing, mountain bike orienteering, team challenges, an open water swim, night orienteering and a mountain fell race.
For the first time, Windermere School pupils won.
This year’s race was hosted by Windermere School and was organised by head of outdoor education Paul Platt.
Having competed in every event since its inception, Windermere School’s team dominated the competition, securing first place in the climbing, mountain bike, open water swim and night orienteering disciplines on their way to the title.
Paul said: “We are incredibly proud of the team. The Round Square Adventure Race is an exceptionally demanding event which challenges students both physically and mentally.
“To see our pupils show such determination, teamwork and resilience. And to achieve Windermere’s first ever victory after 20 years of competition is a fantastic achievement.”
