
A major search involving over 85 rescuers was carried for a missing person in the Lake District.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team said it was called out to Aira Force, Ullswater, on Sunday May 17 at around 10.45am by Cumbria police to help in the search, as officers concerned for the missing persons welfare.
Initial searches for the individual were unsuccessful despite the best efforts of several search and rescue parties.
This included police drones, police search and rescue, Coastguard helicopter, North Cumbria Search and Rescue, Lake District Mountain Rescue Searchdogs and Patterdale mountain rescue members over land on the team boat.
Due to the huge potential search area, support from other mountain rescue teams, drones and dogs was requested.
The search area included large sections of the Ullswater way through Gowbarrow, Pooley Bridge and High Street.
Around 70 mountain rescue team members from Patterdale, Penrith Mountain Rescue Team, Kirby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team, Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team Kendal Mountain Rescue Team, Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team searched the fells.
Following effort from all agencies involved, Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team said the missing person was safely found just before nightfall.
A spokesman for the team said: “Patterdale MR would like to thank all those involved in allowing a succesfull outcome for the missing person and their family.”
The search lasted 11 hours and involved around 85 people in total.
