Changes to the way people pay for parking at Workington’s multi-storey car park will be introduced early next month.

The Cumberland Council-operated site will be moving away from the pay-on-exit barrier system from Tuesday 2 June, with customers asked to pay on arrival, in line with other council-run car parks.

People will also able to use the MiPermit mobile app or phone system, card or cash.

If customers choose to use the MiPermit app, they’re reminded to only download it from the official Apple App Store or from Google Play depending on which device they use.

The council said the changes will allow the car park to be open for longer with it operating from 7am to 7pm seven days a week from 2 June.

Cllr Barbara Cannon, the council’s Executive member for financial planning and assets, said: “We’re making these changes to improve the overall experience for customers using our multi-storey car park.

“As well as giving people more flexible options to pay, the changes mean we’ll be able to open earlier and stay open for longer, further improving the parking options for those who live, work in or visit Workington.”

Until the new system goes live, the current barrier system and payment methods remain in place.

Anyone who holds a permit for then multi-storey car park is encouraged to email the council’s car parking team on [email protected] so they can help move them on to the new MiPermit system.
