
Carlisle is set to host an Armed Forces Day event.
The event will take place between 10am and 4pm in the city centre pedestrianised area on Saturday 27 June.
It is being organised by Cumberland Council, with the support of local armed forces organisations.
Organisations that will be represented are as follows:
- Cumbria Museum of Military Life
- Lancs Association Branch
- Cumbria Army Cadet Force
- Cumbria Police
- Age UK North Cumbria
- Carlisle Sea Cadets
- RAF Air Cadets
- Solway Aviation Society
- Royal British Legion
- Armed Forces Careers Office Carlisle
- SSAFA Cumbria branch
- Cumberland Council.
The Armed Forces Day programme will include live music provided by the Border Concert Band.
The event will also include a drill competition between the Army Cadets and the Royal Air Force Cadets, offering a chance to see both services on display.
The chair of Cumberland Council, Councillor Andy Semple will also speak about the council’s commitment to the Armed Forces.
An Armed Forces flag will be flown from the Old Town Hall from 12 noon on Monday 22 June.
The day will conclude with the flag-lowering ceremony on Saturday 27 June from 3pm.
Attendees will include the chair of Cumberland Council, councillor Andy Semple; the mayor of Carlisle, Anne Glendinning, together with the Lord Lieutenant’s representative; and the president of the Royal British Legion (Carlisle & Stanwix Branch).
