Work is due to start on Whitehaven Civic Hall from next week.
The building, on Lowther Street, closed with immediate effect on May 14 after safety improvements were identified.
Recent inspections concluded that current arrangements needed to be improved.
Cumberland Council owns the freehold of the Lowther Street building and leases it to Rosehill Youth Theatre trust which operate it, including its principal events space The Solway Hall.
This week, Cumberland Council said a contractor had been selected to carry out the work.
A spokesman added: “Design work and site visits have now taken place and it is the intention that the project gets underway next week.”
Work is focused on the fire alarm system, Cumberland Council said, and will be carried out by PWS Systems, of Wigton.
It is hoped the hall will reopen this summer.
