A strong headwind down the back straight created very challenging race conditions for riders at Carlisle Cycle Circuit.
However, even the youngest riders rose to the occasion though with them all completing their races safely.
Honours in the first races were shared equally between Cumbrian riders and Scottish visitors, with Oliver Nichol and Skye Stewart winning the Under-8s competition and Mieke van Schelven and David McIntyre topped the Under-10s.
The Scots were on form in the older Youth categories though with Zoe Martin, Cobey Stewart, Izzy Barbour and Josh Stewart all victorious.
Wesley van Schelven from Lorton showed what the locals can do though, with a strong ride to win the Under-12s boys competition.
The final race of the night was for Category 3 and 4 adults.
The race was dominated by a two-man break away consisting of Ryan Johnston of local team Wolf Cycles and visitor Chris Cummiskey riding for Rapha Cycling Club.
The duo took a commanding lead, eventually lapping the field. There was aggressive riding in the main group too, with attacks from various riders including veteran Border City Wheelers rider Bryan Pool.
But the winner was always going to come from the breakaway and both riders came into the final bend toe-to-toe.
The sprint was close but Johnston managed a final kick to take the top step of the podium from gallant runner up Commiskey.
Behind the leaders another Wolf Cycles rider was in action as Craig Summersgill accelerated hard to escape from the chasing group to take third comfortably.
The rest of the bunch sprinted together for the line with Pool coming home in fourth just ahead of Velo Club Cumbria’s Mark Studholme to end a successful race for the locals as four out of the first five riders were from Cumbrian clubs.
