
A West Cumbrian group for men diagnosed with prostate cancer is looking to increase awareness of the disease.
The Westlakes Prostate Support Group meet twice a month in Whitehaven and was set up around 18 months ago.
What started with eight men attending the first session has increased into around 25 members, at various stages of the disease.
Founder member Barry Beecham was diagnosed in 2022 and has been through successful radiotherapy and hormone treatment, with check-ups decreased from every three months to six months.
Originally from East London, Barry has lived in West Cumbria for 45 years working as a bus driver and then in care before retiring last year.
He wants more testing to be done so that if there is a possibility of having cancer men can go and take it further.
