
Whitehaven lost their unbeaten record in the Cumbria League’s Premier Division – and with it top spot.
That’s now occupied by their conquerors at the Playground, Keswick who won by the impressive margin of 98 runs.
The match-winner for the Lakes side was Paul Hindmarch whose knock of 86 off just 34 balls completely changed the game.
His first 50 came off 15 balls and he hit a total of 11 big sixes before being run out off the last ball of the innings.
When he joined the action Keswick were 141-5 with only 11 overs left, and when he departed the visitors had moved to 234 all out with all but seven of the runs coming from the Hindmarch bat.
Will Atkinson (37) and James McGown (32) had provided decent contributions in the first six batsmen.
Jonathan Strewart avoided the mayhem for Whitehaven with excellent figures of 5-22 from his ten overs.
Whitehaven’s reply started disastrously as Kian Larmour went first ball, trapped leg before by James McGown.
Professional Kevin Perere (41) and Stephen Holliday (29) set about repairing the damage but both went in the space of a run with Dan Gaskell claiming both wickets.
At 77-3 Whitehaven needed a couple of big knocks but none came with 89-5 lurching to 111-8 before Matthew Branthwaite (16) and Tom de Gelder (12) did stay for a while. But it all ended on 136 with 6.1 overs left.
Gaskell took 4-18 from his 10 overs while Meljo Jose had 3-17.
Despite being the last team to lose a game that dropped Whitehaven to third as Cockermouth had a comfortable win over Carlisle seconds to go second.

The Edenside second string were skittled for 44 in 28.5 overs with only James Bell, batting at nine in double figures with 11 not out.
Cockermouth skipper Matty Sempill took 4-3 from 10 overs (eight of them maidens) while Josh Brown (2-5), Jacob Madigan (2-14) and Ethan Hardie-Knight (2-18) accounted for the other wickets.
Cockermouth did lose three wickets in reaching their target in 11.5 overs and Brown (21no) bringing up the winning score in the grand manner with a six.
Bell took 2-10 for Carlisle.

Champions Furness are up to fourth, just nine points behind the leaders with ba third of the season gone.
They beat Wigton by five wickets after dismissing the visitors for 108 in 35-5 overs.
Wigton pro Chris Hodgson (23) top-scored with most support from Cumbria Development team wicket-keeper Matthew Reed (18). The Millom pro Pramod Maduwantha was the most successful bowler, taking 4-18 off his eight overs.
Lewis Gribbin (34) helped Furness make a steady start and it was Maduwantha (40no) who guided them to victory on 109-5 after 28.1 overs.
Hodgson (2-18) put in a good spell of nine overs for his side.
Workington continued their climb up the table and now sit fifth after winning by 42 runs at Dalton.
Professional Vishva Chathuranga put in another eye-catching knock of 50 which certainly held the Workington innings together. Adam Chambers was next best on 19 not out.
Lewis Bayman (3-10) and Wyll Stanway (3-30) were the most effective bowlers for Dalton.
Chathuranga then shone with the ball, taking 4-11 off 5.4 overs and backed by Matty Lowden (4-27) they had Dalton all out for 73 in the 30th over.

Millom pro Nathan Waterston struck his second century of the season when he made 131 against Cleator which lifted his side to 229-8 in their allotted 50 overs.
He needed good support from Callum High (60) to get them that far however.

Doug Hughes took 4-42 for Cleator who in reply were bowled out for 191 in the final over.

Professional Dilan Jayalath top-scored with 65 and wicket-keeper Jack Fee made 20 further down the order.
Millom used seven bowlers with the best return from Callum High (3-20) while Ben High had 2-26 and Oscar Mackie took 2-28.
