This year marks the 100th birthday of Workington-based Vulcan Park Bowling Club.
To commemorate the occasion, the club will be holding a 12-hour bowlathon at its green on Wednesday June 17 from 9am.
The event is open to anyone; not just people who already play bowls.
The aim of the event is to encourage more residents of Workington to take up the sport.
Bowls will be made available to those who don’t possess any of their own.
Organisations which have already booked to take part are the RNLI, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, the women’s section of the Royal British Legion, Poppy Appeal Ladies, Morrisons, Tesco, South Workington Youth Partnership, Allerdale Day Opportunities and staff of Workington Town Council.
Members of other bowling clubs in the county are also welcome to attend.
The invite extended to all is to go along to the Vulcan Park green at any time between 9am and 9pm and bowl as few or as many bowls as they wish.
As far as the Whitehaven Trophies-sponsored West Cumbria Fours League is concerned Vulcan Park have work to do as they currently sit bottom after their latest 7-2 defeat at Harris Park.
Whitehaven A made it seven wins out of seven last Friday with a 7-0 home win against Workington B and now lead the league by five points from the Keswick based club Fitz Park, who are also unbeaten and have a game in hand over the leaders.
Results from Friday 5 June: Maryport 5, Seaton 2; Harris Park 7, Vulcan Park 2; Fitz Park 7, Whitehaven B 0; Whitehaven A 7, Workington B 0; Workington A 7, Cleator Moor 0.

In the West Cumbria Mixed Triples League last week’s fixtures played were in the Knock-Out Cup competition.
Last year’s cup winners, Wigton, started their defence of the competition with a 9-0 home win against Vulcan Park A.
Other results: Vulcan Park B 0, Whitehaven B 9; Seascale 5, Seaton 4; Harris Park A 5, Workington B 4; Croft 5, Egremont 4; Cleator Moor 2, Workington A 7; Maryport 2, Whitehaven A 7. Because of the odd number of teams in the competition Harris Park B received a bye.
