Creighton Rugby Union Club has announced the appointment of a new head coach.
Jeff Clare, a former rugby league professional with Wigan, has been involved in coaching in recent years at Cockermouth and Aspatria, as well as Cockermouth Titans rugby league club.
Clare scored Wigan’s first four-point try against Salford in August 1983. Before then the try had only been worth three points.
Clare went on to play for Leeds, Salford and St Helens before hanging up his boots.
He is now a maths teacher at Workington Academy and is due to retire in a few weeks time.
Creighton said: “Jeff brings a wealth of rugby knowledge, coaching experience, and passion for player development.
“His commitment to building strong team culture and helping players reach their full potential makes him an exciting addition to the club as we look ahead to the new season.
“Everyone at Creighton Rugby Club is thrilled to welcome Jeff to the Creighton family, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have both on and off the pitch.”
It’s actually a momentous time in Creighton’s history for Clare to be taking over as the club is celebrating its centenary next year.
It has been researching the past 100 years and part one of the history has been put into print – 36 A5 pages which can be bought from the club at £6 or by post for £7.55p.
